The topic: "South Africa’s ability to fight corruption within the criminal justice system". Corruption is a significant challenge for good governance in South Africa. How can South Africans come together to rid our culture of this blight? Please watch on Sunday at 4pm on eNCA, and let us have your views on Facebook at /Kara-Heritage-Institute.
Dr Mathole Motshekga is invited by the Minister of the Department of Arts and Culture (Mr Nathi Mthethwa) to speak at the annual Kgoshi Mampuru II Commemoration Day, his topic"The Struggle for the Soul of Africa" tomorrow 24 January 2015.
Arts and Culture Minister, Mr Nathi Mthethwa will deliver a keynote address at the annual Kgoshi Mampuru II Commemoration Day on Saturday, 24 January 2015 at Try Again Sports Ground in Mamone, Moshate,
Limpopo Province.
Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture, Ms Rejoice Mabudafhasi, Limpopo MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture, Ms Nandi Ndalane, Acting
MEC for Education, Mr Jerry Ndou, Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality, Cllr David Magabe and Mayor of Fetakgomo Local Municipality, Cllr Sefala will join the Minister during the visit.
The late Kgosi Mampuru is amongst the first liberation icons of this country that refused to recognise the oppressive hut tax law
imposed in the 1860s on African households by the Colonial Government. He was brutally executed in public at the old Pretoria Central Prison for refusing to pay an imposed hut tax on 22 November 1883.
In honour of the late Kgosi Mampuru II, President Zuma renamed the old Pretoria Central Prison after him on 10 April 2013. Since its inception in 1999, the annual Kgoshi Mampuru II Commemoration, has attracted an estimated number of 30 000 audiences from all nine provinces of South Africa and internationally.
The government has an extensive ongoing heritage programme that includes the upgrading and declaration of historic sites to
ensure a more representative and inclusive South African history and heritage. The Department of Arts and Culture (DAC) and its associated institution, the South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA) are exploring the possibility of erecting a statue of the late Kgoshi Mampuru II at Mamone village, Limpopo. Transformation of the heritage landscape is central in promoting nation
building and social cohesion.
As part of the build-up activities towards the commemoration day, Minister Nathi Mthethwa will hoist South African flags in
Ngwanatshwane and Thete Secondary School in Mamone as part of the Flag in Every School Campaign. The Department has committed to installing flags in every school to inculcate a spirit of patriotism, nation building and social cohesion. Members of the media are invited to attend.
