Kara Heritage Institute and associates invite you to the first celebration of
African history month in South Africa; in commemoration of the unbanning of the
African National Congress and other liberation movements; in particular the
release of Nelson Mandela and other political prisoners.
The release of our icon Nelson Mandela and other political prisoners marked a new
chapter in the history of Africa and the diaspora. It served as a victory for
the African and global struggle for democracy, human and people’s rights.
Therefore the Kara Heritage institute and associates deemed it significant to
join the diaspora in declaring and celebrating African history month in
February.
This celebration offers us an opportunity to reflect on African Identity, History,
culture and the current challenges facing Africa and the diaspora. For example:
racism, tribalism, xenophobia, religious intolerance and conflict. Scholars and
community leaders have been invited to lead discussions on these matters.
